IPL 2025 | PBKS crumble to paltry 111 against KKR
Facing off against his old team, which he led to the IPL title last season, Shreyas Iyer fell for a duck as Punjab Kings crumbled to a paltry 111 against Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL match at Mullanpur on Tuesday.
The home team was bowled out with 27 balls to spare, with all five KKR bowlers finishing among the wickets.
Harshit Rana struck twice in his first over to peg back Punjab Kings after they elected to bat.
Brought on after a Vaibhav Arora over went for 20, Rana was greeted with a six by Priyansh Arya.
But he had his revenge off the next ball, having the Punjab opener caught at fine leg by Ramandeep Singh for 22 off 12 balls.
Two balls later, skipper Shreyas Iyer was back in the dugout for a duck, also caught by Ramandeep off Rana.
Worse was to come for Punjab in the next over as Varun Chakravarthy castled Josh Inglis for two, leaving the home team at 42/3 after five overs.
The other opener Prabhsimran Singh then smacked Rana for successive sixes but the bowler again had the last laugh and once again Ramandeep was the catcher. Prabhsimran had made 30 off 15 balls.
Nehal Wadhera struck Anrich Nortje for successive boundaries but then fell off the next ball for 10. With half the side gone for just 74, Punjab brought on Suryansh Shedge as an impact sub in place of Prabhsimran.
Punjab still had Glenn Maxwell at the crease but the Aussie’s woeful form continued as he was bowled by a Chakravarthy carrom ball for seven.
The home side’s gamble to go for an early impact sub failed as Shedge was caught behind by keeper Quinton de Kock off Sunil Narine for four.
The procession to and from the crease continued as Marco Jansen was bowled by Narine in the same over, leaving Punjab at 86/8 after 11 overs.
Shashank Singh attempted to break the shackles by belting a six off Chakravarthy but was trapped leg before by Arora shortly afterwards for 18.
Two balls later, the Punjab innings came to a sorry end as a farcical run out saw Xavier Bartlett dismissed for 11.
